Volunteering

The Yaddo Garden Association is a volunteer organization supported by membership and donations. Volunteers have the opportunity to work in the garden, serve as a docent, or both. Gardeners work from late April to late November. We meet Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. Most of us come at 9 A.M. and work to noon, but some come as early as 6 A.M. and leave whenever they wish. One volunteer comes after work to mow the lawns and many work other days and times to get the work done. One of the perks of working in the garden is the break at 10:30 when there is always coffee or a cold drink and yummy goodies to eat which are soon worked off. The conversation and fellowship are one of the highlights of working in the garden.

Docents lead tours in the gardens from spring through the fall. Drop-in tours are on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer and on Tuesdays during the thoroughbred racing season. Group tours are accommodated throughout the season. Occasionally, we have tours of the Yaddo mansion as a fundraiser for the association.

The best way to become a volunteer is to show up at the gardens when we are working. Any of the volunteers will gladly answer any question you may have. Gardeners will be put to work quickly. Docent members will be put in contact with the member in charge of the docents. Opening Day For Garden Work - 2008

For returning volunteers: Saturday, April 26, 2008
For new volunteers: Saturday, May 3, 2008

We are once again looking for volunteers to help in the gardens. Opening dates have been set for Saturday, April 26 for returning volunteers. Please come anytime between 9am and 12:00 noon. On Saturday, May 3, new volunteers should arrive at 9am. We look forward to a busy and productive season.

Volunteers help restore and preserve the gardens. We work Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, 9 am - noon. Most work is from May to October. All tools are provided; no experience necessary. For more information, call: 584-0746 (Yaddo).

Docent Organizational Meeting - 2008

The YGA Docent organizational meeting: Tuesday, May 13, 2008

The Docent organizational meeting will be held Tuesday, May 13 in the Glasby Room at the Saratoga Library. All returning Docents should come at 7:00p.m.

Anyone interested in becoming a YGA Docent should call Yaddo at 584-0746 for further information.

The Docents conduct guided tours of the gardens. They also present slide shows for interested groups.
