Yaddo mystery writer Matt Witten will read from his soon-to-be-released Jacob Burns mystery, The Killing Bee, at the Saratoga Springs Barnes & Noble store at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 28.

Mr. Witten's presentation, which will include a question-and-answer session and an opportunity to have him sign copies of his books, is the first in a series of events the store will host in honor of Yaddo. The new collaboration between Barnes & Noble and Yaddo is designed to introduce the local community to artists who have held Yaddo residencies. In addition, the Saratoga Springs store has set up a permanent rotating store display featuring works by Yaddo authors.

The Killing Bee, forthcoming in November from Penquin Books, is Mr. Witten's fourth novel starring amateur sleuth Jacob Burns, who, like Witten, likes to drink coffee, is happily married to a college professor, has two boys, and likes to write. All of the Jacob Burns mysteries are set in the Saratoga Springs region. Previous books in the series are Breakfast at Madeline's, Grand Delusion, and Strange Bedfellows. Mr. Witten also is the author of several stage plays, movie screenplays, and scripts for television shows.

Mr. Witten moved to Saratoga Springs after first experiencing the city through stays at Yaddo in 1987 and 1989 and remained in "The Spa City" for nearly a decade until taking a job as a staff writer for the highly-acclaimed television show Law & Order. He and his family now live in California but spend part of every summer in Saratoga Springs.

The July 28 program is free and open to the public. Those attending the reading may reserve a copy of Mr. Witten's newest Jacob Burns mystery. The Saratoga Springs Barnes & Noble store is located at 3029 State Route 50. For information about the reading, call (518) 583-7717.
