Mr. Liebermann - composer-in-residence at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center during the 2000 season - and Mr. Hobbs will play Mr. Liebermann's Three Lullabies Op. 26 and Sonata in D Major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Yamaha Artist Services, New York, is graciously providing one of the pianos for the program. One of the most frequently performed and recorded composers of his generation, Mr. Liebermann is the recipient of a Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and the Outstanding Composition Award from the Yamaha Music Foundation. He also is the winner of the Delius International Composition Competition Grand Prize and awards from ASCAP and BMI. Among the artists who have performed Mr. Liebermann's works are James Galway, Mstislav Rostropovich, James Levine, Charles Dutoit, Stephen Hough, Kurt Masur, Steuart Bedford, Andrew Litton, David Zinman, Joshua Bell, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Paula Robison. His works have been played internationally by the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Saint Louis Symphony, the Cincinnati Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony, the Dallas Symphony (where he is the longtime composer-in-residence), the Baltimore Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, L'Orchestre de Monte-Carlo, the New Japan Philharmonic, and the Malmo Symphony Orchestra, among others. Mr. Liebermann also is an active conductor and pianist. He recently made his debut at the Philharmonie in Berlin, performing his Quintet with members of the Berlin Philharmonic. He has performed with artists such as James Galway, Chantal Juillet, and Robert White, and he was the conductor for a recording of his two Piano Concertos with soloist Stephen Hough and the BBC Scottish Orchestra on the Hyperion label, which received a Grammy nomination for best classical contemporary composition, and for a recording on the BMG label of his Concertos for Flute and Orchestra, Flute Harp and Orchestra, and Piccolo and Orchestra featuring soloist James Galway.
Mr. Hobbs has played under conductors Sir Charles Mackerras, Nicholas McGegan, Richard Bonynge, Donald Runnicles, Jiri Kout, Marco Armiliato, and others. He also has worked closely with many renowned singers, including Renee Fleming, Susan Graham, Karita Mattila, Placido Domingo, and Dmitri Hvorostovksy. Mr. Hobbs has been invited to perform as pianist and harpsichordist with the Gulbenkian Foundation Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal, in a series of concerts over three years and in this year's Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center in New York City. Currently, Mr. Hobbs is on the coaching staff of the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Japan, as well as assistant to Maestro James Conlon at the May Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio. A native of Texas, he received his bachelor's degree in piano performance summa cum laude from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a master of music in piano performance, research, and literature from the Eastman School of Music. The Yaddo Summer Benefit is an annual event that raises money for Yaddo's artist residency program, which hosts approximately 200 creative professionals a year. This year's fundraiser is organized by a Benefit Committee chaired by Joann Long. Charles V. Wait, President of Adirondack Trust Company, is Chair of the Corporate Committee, and Anne T.
