In Praise Of The Earth

Nathan Currier
Nathan Currier

In honor of Earth Day 2004, Earth Day Network is presenting the world premier of Yaddo composer Nathan Currier's Gaian Variations, portions of which were written at Yaddo. Mr. Currier, who has been in residence twice at Yaddo (most recently in 2003, when he held The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Residency), has based his oratorio on the Gaian hypothesis that the Earth is a single, great living organism.

As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, the Brooklyn Philharmonic is teaming up with The New York Virtuoso Singers, The Canticum Novum Singers, an impressive roster of soloists, and conductor Harold Rosenbaum to present this dramatic composition. Gaian Variations will premier at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, in New York City on April 21st, 2004, at 8 p.m. For further information please visit: www.gaianvariations.com or www.lincolncenter.org.
