Egan Wins NBCC Award

— Jennifer Egan's novel A Visit from the Goon Squad won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction at a ceremony last night in Manhattan.

The story of an aging former punk rocker and record executive, a troubled young woman he employs, and a host of other characters whose lives intertwine with each other, "Goon Squad" also made The New York Times Book Review's "Top 10 Books of 2010" list and was named one of the best books of 2010 by Publishers' Weekly, NPR's "On Point", and numerous other magazines and newspapers across the country.

Other Yaddo authors nominated for the NBCC awards for the 2010 publishing year include Jonathan Franzen, for his highly praised novel Freedom, and Anne Carson, for Nox, a boxed collection of poetry, letters, and photographs created as a tribute to her late brother.

Jennifer Egan is the author of The Invisible Circus and the story collection Emerald City.
