19 Yaddo Artists Win Guggenheims

- Congratulations to the 19 former Yaddo residents  who are among the diverse group of 181 artists, scholars, and scientists from the United States and Canada receiving 2012 Guggenheim Fellowship Awards.

The Yaddo winners are composers Tom Cipullo,Vivian Fung, Daron Hagen, and Keeril Makan; writers Adam Bock, Ruth Franklin, Eliza Griswold, James Kaplan, Sarah Manguso, Brighde Mullins, J.T. Rogers, Benjamin Taylor,  John Wray, and C. Dale Young; and visual artists Ellen Altfest, Louise Belcourt, Doug DuBois, Bill Jacobson, and Daniel Wiener.

Winners of the awards, announced today, are selected based on distinguished past achievements and exceptional promise for future accomplishment. Guggenheim Fellowships are one-time-only grants and provide for a block of time enabling fellows to work with as much creative freedom as possible. The average individual prize varies, but generally runs in the $30,000-$40,000 range.

More than 3,000 applicants were considered by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation for the 2012 fellowships.
