Yaddo and Music from Copland House Team Up to Present Public Concert

Notes From The Mansion

– Yaddo and Music from Copland House – the celebrated resident ensemble at Aaron Copland's historic home – will present a concert in New York City Tuesday, January 29th, in the latest edition of a distinguished new music series. A limited number of complimentary seats for this year's program are available to the public.

The focus of the landmark "Notes from the Mansion" collaboration, which began in 2005, is to spotlight the music of some of the nearly 500 composers who have been guests at Yaddo and to increase audiences for the work of American composers. In the tradition of the Yaddo Festivals of American Music, first organized by Aaron Copland and held at Yaddo between 1932 and 1952, programming for the concert series is balanced between reviving important older works and introducing notable newer compositions. Works by Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Stacy Garrop, Eric Moe, Paul Moravec, and David Rakowski will be featured on Tuesday's program at 8 p.m. at The National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South (20th Street between Park and Irving Place). The National Arts Club will host a reception following the performance. Several of the composers are expected to be on hand to introduce their work. The program will include the following pieces:

Bernstein: Sonata for Clarinet and Piano (1941-42)
Copland: Three Songs (1922-1955)
Moe: Flex Time (2006) for solo violin
Garrop: Little Bits (2000) for 4 instruments
Rakowski: Violin Songs (2003) for soprano and violin
Moravec: Mood Swings (1998) for piano trio

Aaron Copland was one of Yaddo's earliest artist guests, and the connection continues today as his former home near New York City, now known as Copland House, offers composers' residencies in an operation similar to Yaddo's artists' residency program in addition to education and community outreach activities. Many composers who have been guests at Yaddo also have been in residence at Copland House.

To reserve a seat for the January 29th concert, please call the Yaddo office at 518.584.0746 or send an e-mail to Dana McClure at dmcclure@yaddo.org.
