VOLUNTEERING
The Yaddo Garden Association is a volunteer organization financially supported by memberships and donations. Volunteers have the opportunity to work in the garden, serve as a docent, or both.
Garden work is done from late April to late October, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. One of the perks of working in the garden is the break at 10:30 when there is always coffee or a cold drink and yummy goodies to eat. The conversation and fellowship are highlights of working in the garden.
Docents lead tours in the gardens from summer through the fall. Drop-in tours are on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer and on Tuesdays during the thoroughbred racing season. Group tours for other dates and times are accommodated throughout the season and available by reservation. Contact Yaddo at (518) 584-0746 to arrange a group tour.
Occasionally the Yaddo mansion is open for tours as a fundraising event.
The best way to become a volunteer is to show up at the gardens when volunteers are working (Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday mornings). Any of the volunteers will gladly answer any questions. Gardeners will be put to work quickly. Prospective docents will be put in contact with the YGA member in charge of the docents.
Sign up for the mailing list indicating that you wish to volunteer, complete the application on the membership page or call Yaddo at (518) 584-0746 and leave a message.
