Music theater sensations Daniel and Patrick Lazour are Yaddo artists whose breakthrough musical We Live in Cairo premiered at the American Repertory Theater in 2019. The play captures the tumultuous street protests leading up to the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. It received a Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater. The brothers, of Lebanese descent, began writing for the stage while still teenagers. Their current projects include a musical adaptation of Ritesh Batra’s 2013 arthouse hit The Lunchbox for Lincoln Center Theatre and a sing-along, Night Side Songs. They are composing original music for Caroline Lindy’s feature film, Your Monster; their movie musical Challenger: An American Dream is being developed with Bruce Cohen Productions and Universal Remote. The Lazours’ work is featured on such albums as Flap My Wings (Songs from We Live in Cairo), a collection of protest songs performed by international artists.
