August 7 | The Portraiture of Carl Van Vechten with Lisa Schlansker Kolosek

Lisa Schlansker Kolosek will explore the distinct portraiture of American photographer, novelist, and performing arts critic Carl Van Vechten. She will also discuss her exhibition, Carl Van Vechten On Dance: Photographs from the Tang Teaching Museum Collection, that was installed in the Yaddo mansion in 2021.

Lisa Schlansker Kolosek is an independent curator, art historian, and writer. Recent exhibitions include PEN America at 100: A Century of Defending the Written Word at the New-York Historical Society, Mark Seliger: SPAC Stories at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and Carl Van Vechten On Dance at Yaddo. She is the author of The Invention of Chic. Thérèse Bonney and Paris Moderne (Thames & Hudson) and National Museum of Dance and Hall of Fame: Celebrating 30 Years (SUNY Press). She is a 2023-24 recipient of a Short-Term Research Fellowship at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and the Robert Gould Shaw Fellowship for the Harvard Theatre Collection at Houghton Library, Harvard University.
