Hernan will in conversation with his fellow Yaddo artist Joan Silber, author of Secret of Happiness and Improvement.

Hernan Diaz is the author of two novels translated into more than twenty languages. His first novel, In the Distance, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award. He has also written a book of essays, and his work has appeared in The Paris Review, Granta, Playboy, The Yale Review and McSweeney’s.

Joan Silber is the author of nine books of fiction. Her most recent novel, Secrets of Happiness, was listed as an Editors’ Choice by The New York Times Book Review and her novel, Improvement, won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award. She has taught for many years at Sarah Lawrence College and in the Warren Wilson MFA Program.
